Dr Dew Tournament 2019 – Report and photos

Dr Dew Memorial Under 10’s  6-a-side Tournament

19th May 2019

This tournament was established in memory of Dr Dew, Horsham Cricket Club’s late President and the founder of the junior section at Horsham .

He started the junior section in 1959 and encouraged and respected all players, girls as well as boys, whatever their ability, age, creed or colour.

He not only remembered all their names but those of their parents and siblings too and on Sunday 19th May there were children competing in the 8th memorial tournament watched by grandparents who had themselves been coached by Dr Dew many years ago.

10 teams including 2 girls teams from 6 clubs, Horsham , Southwater, Horsham Trinity, Lindfield, Roffey and West Chiltington  played in the group stages with some 9 year olds playing their first ever match and enjoying themselves as much as the more experienced 10 year olds . The matches were played with great sportsmanship and support from parents and coaches.

The semi finals took place between

West Chiltington vs Southwater C

Horsham A vs Southwater B.

The finals were between Horsham A and West Chiltington and a really close great match ended with West Chiltington as the worthy winners.
