Essential Gas Works affecting access to Cricketfield Road

Starting on 19/02/2024 SGN will be carrying out essential upgrade works to the gas network surrounding HSC.

All of the following information has been received from SGN and may be subject to changes.

Here is what we currently know:

The works will be carried out by SGN contractor I&G Contractors Ltd and will begin between the 19/02/2024 and 04/03/2024.

They do not expect to interrupt our gas supply as part of their work.

Teams working in the area will have to dig up footpaths and roads to upgrade the old metal gas mains to new plastic pipes.

To carry out the work, they need to close the following roads from 19/02/2024:

  • Worthing Road
  • Blackbridge Lane

The closure will last approximately 12 weeks. The roads will be closed to through traffic, THERE WILL BE ACCESS TO HOMES AND BUSINESSES. Access for pedestrians and cyclists will also be maintained. A signposted diversion will be in place for vehicles.

The road closures will be in five phases.

Phase One
Involves the closure of Blackbridge Lane, with access to Cricketfield Road only available heading south from the town centre (Sainsburys) direction.

Phase Two
Involves the closure of Worthing Road between Cricketfield Road and Tanbridge Park, with access to Cricketfield Road only available heading north from the Hop Oast roundabout / Blackbridge Lane direction.

Phase Three
Involves the closure of Worthing Road between Tanbridge Park and Riverside Surgery, with access to Cricketfield Road only available heading north from the Hop Oast roundabout / Blackbridge Lane direction.

Phases Four & Five
Involves the closure of Worthing Road between Riverside Surgery / Sainsburys, with access to Cricketfield Road only available heading north from the Hop Oast roundabout / Blackbridge Lane direction.

NOTE: Until the works commence, SGN have said they are unable to confirm how long each phase will last. We will provide updates at any point IF/WHEN we obtain additional information.

Unfortunately, it seems inevitable there will be traffic delays and so all we can suggest is you leave extra time if travelling to the club for a specific time. SGN have assured us that 100% access will be maintained.

Maps showing the phased road closures will be displayed in the clubhouse by the club office.

Please share this with any non-members / visiting sports clubs who have plans to come to the club over the coming weeks.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.
