Junior cricket at HCC in 2019
Horsham Cricket Club runs age group teams from U8 – U16 for Boys and Girls, as well as organised sessions for younger children. You can read more about ‘All Stars’ cricket for 5-7 yr olds here
Players from U8 upwards are required to become members of the junior section of the cricket club and to pay an annual subscription which covers training sessions. This is due at the beginning of the season. Match fees for U10-U16s are £4 per game and for U8s and U9s are £2, payable on the day of the match.
Signing on for the 2019 season will be open shortly – any players who were members in 2018, or have already registered their interest with the office, will be contacted by email in April and invited to renew online.
U8 -£40 (£35 for second U8 in family, HDC LAC holders £20)
U9 – £60 (£55 for second U9 in family, HDC LAC holders £30)
U10 upwards – First child in family – £75 and £70 for each additional sibling. This includes £15 for a new match shirt as we have a new main sponsor and our match shirts need to reflect this.
*U11 Girls £40 (£35 for additional siblings) – this is for girls who only attend Wed eve training
The Club is part of the Gift Aid scheme. If you are a UK taxpayer we ask that you split the membership payment as follows: a £5 subscription and the remainder as a donation to the Club. Just complete the Gift Aid form provided when signing up if you have not already done and we’ll do the rest. In 2018 we reclaimed over £1,500 so it’s worth doing.
New players are very welcome in all age groups and your son/daughter can attend two training sessions as a ‘taster’ before deciding whether to join – please email/ring the relevant age group manager (details below) or firstname.lastname@example.org before attending for the first time. For club insurance purposes please download and complete a player details form and bring to the session so the manager has the relevant emergency contact and medical information to hand. (Forms can be found at the end of this article)
Players who were in our Under 16 age group last year, and are now over 16 yrs of age, are very welcome to join the senior section this year.
All information on fixtures and results for Horsham CC can be found on our play cricket site – please click here to be redirected to that site. A condensed version of all the main HCC Senior and Junior fixtures can be downloaded below – but please double check on Play cricket for the most up to date information as sometimes fixtures need to be changed.
Kit can be ordered directly from our supplier HERE Players from U10 upwards must wear the official HCC match shirt when playing in matches. A match shirt is included in the annual subscription for U10 and upwards. Younger children are of course welcome to buy a match shirt if they wish

Leagues and competitions entered by HCC juniors.
In 2019 the Club will be entering sides into the IDentilam League (IDL), the North Mid Sussex League (NMSL) and, for the U9/10s, U13s and U15s, the ECB National Knockout Cup. Teams will also be entered into the Sussex Junior Festival competition which takes place in the late summer. (Dates for the 2019 festival can be found here)
The IDentilam League is organised into two divisions for each age-group and Horsham CC, as a Premier League Club, enters a team in each 1st Division of the League. IDentilam League matches are played throughout the week including weekends but those in the North Mid Sussex League are played on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings. League entries for our age groups this season are as follows –
- U09: Identilam u9, midweek
- U10: TBC
- U11: NMSL, Tuesdays
- U12: Identilam, Saturdays
- U13: NMSL, Wednesdays
- U14: Identilam, Sundays
- U15: NMSL, Tuesdays
- U16: Identilam, Sundays
NB: because of 11.30 Premier League start times some u10 and u12 away games may be switched to midweek.
Parents are responsible for transporting their children to and from matches and training. Coaches will not do this.
Selection for matches
The age group coach is responsible for selection. This is based on attitude, ability, availability and attendance at training. Selection is not automatic and coaches will balance a player’s safety and wellbeing with the need to pick a competitive team. If someone is regularly playing for a senior team and/or an older age group, then they may not be selected as often for their own age group.
Every effort is made to get players as involved as possible but occasionally some players will not bat or bowl. However, fielding is as important as batting and bowling, so players are still contributing fully to the team.
We ask parents to respect a coach’s decisions but if there are issues which can’t be resolved by a discussion with the coach, they should be referred to the Junior Committee. If the Committee can’t resolve the issue, then the final arbiter will be the Cricket Chairman or an appropriate member of the Main Cricket Committee.
Dr Dew Tournament
We also host an U10 annual softball tournament open to all clubs. This year it will be on Sun 19th May 2019

The juniors are coached and managed by a team of volunteers who have attended ECB training courses, adhere to the ECB safe hands policy and are DBS checked. We also rely on the help of parents to help on match days with scoring and umpiring. If you can help please let us or your manager know.
ECB Clubmark documents are available on the club noticeboard or on The Clubmark Policies and Documents page – Read More
Please note that for young players under 18 years of age, Horsham Cricket Club will adhere to the ECB’s instructions on helmets.
Volunteering – parents
All our coaches and managers are volunteers so extra help is always welcome. Please volunteer to help with:
- Coaching: the more help we have, the more time we can spend individually or in smaller groups.
- Helping with teas.
- Collecting match fees
Please talk to your age group coach or manager about how you can get involved. For coaching and umpiring, we will pay for relevant courses such as ECB Coach Support Worker and Level 1 umpiring. The more help we get the better it is for the boys and girls!
Parents helping on a regular basis with scoring, umpiring or coaching must complete a DBS application. Contact Polly in the club office to get more information.
Volunteering – older juniors
If older juniors would like to help coach the All Stars (u5 – u7) on a Friday afternoon, or the u8 – u14 on a Friday evening, then please talk to your age group coach. This volunteering can count towards the D of E Award, as part of the practical element of PE GCSE, or as part of BTEC community sports leadership. We will produce a certificate as proof of volunteering if needed.
Older juniors can take the Coach Support Worker course when they are 16 – for more information look at https://www.ecb.co.uk/be-involved/coaching/coaching-courses/cricket-coach-support-worker. This is the start point on the coaching pathway so if you’re interested talk to your age group coach or manager. We will pay for the course.
