Annual Squash Tournament Returns

The main singles and O’45’s winners, Dan and James

Annual Squash Tournament returned to HSC

This was the first time we have held the main annual tournaments since 2019 and it created a great week of squash at the club. Friday evening saw the doubles final watched by a lively crowd with Ross Maconachie and Brendan Bradley taking on the pre-tournament favourites Dan West and James Norman. The pairs had different formations in terms left and right or front and back which made for some hugely entertaining rallies. Dan and James took the first two games before Ross and Brendan clawed back the third but that was sadly it for them as the highly experienced doubles players Dan and James came through to take the match 3-1.

For those members who missed the main finals evening on Saturday, you missed out on some great squash, something we should all be proud for a club our size. The main final naturally stole the limelight, right from the off with some very lengthy rallies as both Dan West and Olly Dixon testing each other out. They had contrasting styles with flamboyant shots coming off well from Dan taking the first two games before the controlled length of Olly helped to grab the next two and setting up a decider. Dan appeared to have more fuel left in the tank as he upped the tempo once again and took the decider comfortably.

The earlier finals saw Peter Sibley beat Richard Stevenson in the O’45’s plate, Kevin Boyle beat Robert Knowles in the main singles plate and James Norman beat Simon Hughes in the O’45’s.

We owe a big thank you to Vince Lawrence for organising the tournament whilst not even having taken part!
