Grass Courts Opening

American Tournament Sat 4th May

On Saturday 4th May, the now-traditional “American Tournament” will mark the formal opening of the grass courts, with general play on the grass courts starting on Sunday 5th May.

The purpose of the American Tournament is to enjoy a fun afternoon of tennis, tea and cake with the opportunity to meet other tennis players.

The rules for this style of competition involve frequent changing of doubles partners and having sets that are shorter than normal. Prizes will be handed to the top scoring male and female players.

All members over 16 are eligible. You do not need a partner and you don’t need to book – just turn up.

Whether you play social tennis; competitive tennis; attend men’s/ladies’ sessions; attend formal classes; just play with your friends; have recently joined or been a member for years, it will be great to see you.

There is a £2 entry fee and the start time is 2.30pm sharp so that players can be allocated to their games in the first round.

As is customary, we will stop around half way for tea and cake – essential sports nutrition! It is not obligatory but we would be very grateful if players are able to donate a cake or something similar. Teas and coffees will be supplied.

In the event the grass courts are not playable due to the weather, then we will have the American Tournament on the hard courts. No separate Saturday social tennis session will take place.

This year, the grass courts look better than they have for a while. See you on court!
